Be Still | Print |  E-mail

I get “God highs” at Christian concerts, listening to a charismatic speaker, or during church worship. I love that feeling; it's not a bad thing, and it’s great to be on fire for God and want to do things for Him.

Sometimes, though, I step back and look at why I'm doing the things I'm doing... and it isn't always because I knew it was what God wanted me to do or say. Sometimes I'm so caught up in the moment that I don't even take a minute to stop and say, "Hey, God, is this what You want me to do?" I’m often afraid of asking that question. How can I say that I trust Him, though, and then not live it out?

“Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind... Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.”(James 1:6,8)

I heard a story once about truly believing in God’s miracles:

In a small village, there hadn’t been rain for weeks and weeks. The green fields were drying up, and harvest season was coming. At church one Sunday, the pastor told the congregation to pray for water. “Don‘t just pray that God will send rain- believe it!” He told them. The next Sunday, as everyone was coming in, he was very upset. Someone asked him what was wrong, and he answered, “I am disappointed in your lack of faith!! If you really thought that God would send rain, where are your umbrellas?”

Sometimes living out the way He asks us to isn’t moving to Africa—though that is a wonderful thing for the person God asks to go there. After all, if we all moved to Africa, who would stay with the people who are here who need to see Jesus? Being “on fire” doesn’t always mean that we are shouting from rooftops or doing anything drastic; it just means we actually care enough to do what we can.

Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still, and know that I am God!” Go somewhere that you can have quiet and be alone- in the back yard, at the top of a mountain, in your closet and think about this verse:

"Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong." Ephesians 3:17
