Expectation | Print |  E-mail

I remember running to the mailbox with excitement.  Because my birthday was drawing near, I knew that within the next few days, I would be receiving mail…and not just junk mail.  Cards, with cash.

Because I was innocent, I did not realize that some people’s relatives were not as faithful as mine. I knew it was coming. Never questioned it.

I thought of that this morning when I was reading in Psalms.  Chapter 5 vs. 3 says, “In the morning, O Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.”  Psalm 5:3

Because I have trained myself to pray about life, concerns, passions, and needs, I embrace the first part of this verse easily (it also helps that I am a morning person and like to slip away to talk to God early).  But, when it comes to the end of this verse, I am not sure I “wait in expectation.”

My eyes aren’t as wide as when I was 10 and standing at the mailbox expecting something good.  My heart doesn’t pound like it did when the mailman would drive up.

Is something wrong with me?

When I pray, I am talking to the God of the Universe.  Not only is He amazingly and indescribeably powerful, but He is close and personal.  He loves me and wants the best for me.  When I pray, He will do something on my behalf.  It might not be exactly what I thought He would do, but it will be incredible.

As I am praying through this verse, I have decided to “wait in expectation.”

I am going to keep my eyes open so that when He does answer; when He does intervene, I won’t miss it.  I don’t want to rationalize as coincidence what He does intentionally and specifically for me. So, I will wait in expectation.

In order to do a better job of this, perhaps I will begin to write down the areas that I am bringing to His attention.  And, when He answers, I will record that as well.

Maybe this expectation list will prove to me His faithfulness even more.

What about you?  What can you do to begin to "wait in expectation" for all that God has for you?

I Have A Question

Would You Pray With Me?
