Verse of the Day

Consider | Print |  E-mail

What are you intentional about? I mean, what do you sit on your couch during your down times and think about?

I spend time thinking about where I want to go and what I want to do.  I think about movies I would like to see and golf courses I would like to play.  I have even been known to think about fantasy football.

I think about relationships.  People I used to know… I wonder where they are and what they are doing.  People I am going to see; I think about our upcoming meetings.  And, I think about people that I bumped into throughout the day.  But, I can honestly tell you that I don’t spend that much time thinking about how I can bring the best out in people.  I don’t do that with my wife, my family, my neighbors, and I especially don’t do that with my enemies.

But, the Bible instructs me to do just that.

In Hebrews 10:24 it instructs me to “Consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds.”

The ramifications to that are huge. It implies that I need to be intentional about how I treat other people.  If I take this scripture as an admonition, I need to sit on my couch and be intentional about how I can make others more aware of who Christ is and how He wants to intersect their life.  I need to make them more aware of His love and the value that He places on their life.

Because this scripture challenges me to intentionally invest in others, I am going to do just that.  Today, I am going to take a few minutes and think about the people in my life.  But, rather than just think about how they make me feel, I am going to consider how I can move them closer to love and good deeds.

I might call a few people just to say hi and let them know I was thinking about them.  I will probably send a few emails and a few text messages.  Maybe I will go out of my way to buy a gift for someone.

But, whatever I do…no matter how this plays out in my life, I am going to be a voice of encouragement and push others towards love and good deeds.
