Verse of the Day

Don't Neglect the Tent | Print |  E-mail

Exodus 33 records a piece of Jewish history.  When Moses was leading the children of Israel, he took a tent and he set it outside the camp. It was unique and singular in its purpose.  This tent was not there for social reasons, but for spiritual connection.  Scripture records that when Moses and his young assistant, Joshua, wanted to inquire of the Lord they would go into the tent.  The others around the camp would bow before their own tents while Moses was in the “Tent of Meeting”.  God’s presence would show up, intimate communication would take place, and it so captivated Joshua that he would linger (Exodus 33:11).

This picture is still in effect today.

God did not just send His son in order to purchase salvation and rescue us from hell; He sent Jesus to purchase for us a relationship that is relevant and meaningful. When Jesus died on the cross, he changed the rules.  Now, we no longer have to have someone go to a sanctuary for us in order to connect with the God of creation, we can do that anywhere and anytime.

The principles of the tent still apply. Whenever we draw near to Him, He comes near to us and in that moment, we get to enjoy His presence.  We get to commune with the all-knowing, always-there God.  We get to hear His whispers and feel His embrace.

  • Anyone can go.
  • God’s presence will show up.
  • Intimate communication will take place.
  • And, you can stay as long as you want.

That is the promise of the practical presence of God that comes through a tent-relationship with God.

If you have been neglecting your tent time with God, it is never too late to begin. Establish a tent of meeting and go for it.  Learn to enjoy His presence. Learn to listen to His voice. Embrace His Word, and invite Him to come and hang out with you.   It is through this type of relationship that your faith takes on a whole new meaning.
