“I think our god isn’t God, if he fits inside our heads.” As Cities Burn I am a scheduler, a to-do list maker, a planner down to the minute. Sometimes it’s a good thing. Sometimes it gets me in trouble. It becomes a problem when I do this in my relationship with GOD. Lately, God has broken all plans I have made, which is a good thing. In response, I have really struggled with trusting God’s plan for this season of my life. However, I have learned another meaning of surrendering my will. This summer I have learned how to sit back and chill out… to be still and simply know that God has a plan for my life, to take God out of that little box I have tried to fit inside my head that includes my plans and my lists. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11.
God has a plan for YOU. God has a future for YOU. God has ordered steps for YOU. It’s OKAY for your man-made plans to fall apart. It’s OKAY not to have your future planned out. It’s OKAY not to know what tomorrow holds. I believe a huge lie in today’s society is that our story has to be mapped out and we’re supposed to have it all together all the time. Therefore, in order to avoid all costs of failure, we begin to take control – one task at a time. Before we know it, we have lost the meaning and the beauty of true surrender. It all comes back to believing God’s love for us. If we truly believe God loves us, then why wouldn’t we trust that He has a plan for us? If we truly grasp the concept of what it means that God loves US, we wouldn’t worry. It’s not going to become our reality until we really grasp it. I think sometimes Christians need to learn that not everything needs to be explained. We begin to put God in a box and limit Him by our own limitations, and it quickly becomes a mindset. Make decisions according to what you are told, yet let God make the plans. Relax… God will surely use whatever is in your hand. Submitted by Michaela Brannon
