Focus is the central point and main attention in our lives. What is our focus on – the world’s attractions or Almighty God? What is our sole desire as we walk this earth? Is it to be married before a certain age, get several college degrees, live in a huge house, get a recording deal, own a business, or find other ways to draw attention to ourselves and be defined as successful? It’s easy to get caught up in the here and now, but it’s important to focus on things of eternal value. Are the things you are living for worth Christ dying for? I know in my life I have slipped and fallen down many times while trying to chase after the heart of God. Unfortunately, I am often distracted: one day I focus on Christ, and the next on the worldly loves such as television, internet, texting, and even relationships. It’s easy to think that we can just add Jesus into our life as we see fit, but Jesus doesn’t want to be relegated to the leftover space of our hearts. For the Lord has spoken: you can’t keep an eye on the Lord and another on the world, for you will love one and despise the other (Matthew 6:24). We have let our gaze fall off of the One who sits upon the throne and traded our passion for God for passion for our favorite forms of media. Why is it so easy for us to fall? We are human; we were born into a world of sin. The good thing is that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. His word says that we do not have to conform to this world but be transformed by the renewing of our minds. Renewing our mind daily with God’s Word will strengthen us as believers in Christ. 1Timothy 1:18 says to fight the good fight of faith and hold tightly to which God has called you. Remember to stay alert, for the enemy prowls around like a lion seeking whom He may devour (1 Pet 5:8-9). God desires to have a personal relationship with everyone but only a few people will walk the narrow road to eternal life with Him (Matthew 7:14). Are you one of them? How many of us will answer His call to be a witness for His glory? Will our focus be solely and totally in-love submission to Jesus Christ? I pray we will be. |
