Verse of the Day

Purposeful living | Print |  E-mail

Wake up. Get dressed. Breakfast. Work. Lunch. Work. Come home. Dinner. Sleep. Wake up. Get dressed. Breakfast. Work. Lunch. Work. Come home. Dinner. Sleep.

Wake up…

Is this all there is?   You are called for more.

There are times in life when we don’t know what to do, every day is bleeding into the next; life is just a constant sequence of events that means about as much as the timelines you used to study at school.

But that’s not how it’s supposed to be.

“You are the light of the world, like a city on a mountain, glowing in the night for all to see. Don’t hide your light under a basket! Instead put it on a stand and let it shine for all. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly father.”  Matthew 5:14-16.

We are not called to shrink back into the darkness waiting to see what happens next, to live the same day over and over again.

We are called to crawl out of our little corners of the world and do something with our lives that are beneficial to more people than just ourselves. We are called to break away from our daily routine and to show others that there is something different going on in our hearts.

That doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to go out and buy a ticket to some impoverished country or step up on a box in the middle of the park and start declaring the gospel, although that’s not against the rules.

What it means is you have to figure out a way to shine in your everyday life.

Do everything with such conviction that others will wonder what makes the difference. Use the time you normally use for chilling in front of the TV to spend time with someone or to serve someone. Go up to someone who is normally somewhat of an outcast and start a conversation.

Everyone has the ability to shine and make a difference, the only thing that holds them back is who it is that they’re living for. If you are wise and understand God's ways, live a life of steady goodness so that only good deeds will pour forth. And if you don't brag about the good you do, then you will be truly wise! James 3:13 NLT
