Verse of the Day

A sight to see | Print |  E-mail

I just recently had the opportunity to enjoy a little mini vacation to Florida! We did it road trip style, driving all the way from Pittsburgh. I always love a fun road trip, however sometimes they can become a little boring. I was well prepared with my bible, a good book, music, and of course I was in good company with a coworker along for the ride! With all of these things to entertain me, I found myself just staring out the window for a majority of the ride.

Lucky for me we chose just about the best time of year for such a drive, right when the leaves start to change on the trees. I was just admiring God’s beauty when I noticed something on the side of the road, literally in the trees. It stood out; there is no way that anyone traveling on that road could have missed this sight, unless of course you were sleeping. What I saw literally changed my life forever, not only because it was there, but because I saw 6 of them on the entire drive down south.

I am sure you are all wondering what I saw that could have changed my life forever. Well, it was simply three crosses, representing Jesus’ death for all of our sins. The first time I saw the crosses I said a prayer once again thanking God for dying on a cross, suffering complete torture, for ME. What a wonderful reminder those crosses were for me. But, as we kept driving and saw the 3rd, 4th, 5th and then 6th set of crosses, I started to really think about why those crosses were there.

Ultimately the meaning of those crosses is God’s loving sacrifice of sending his Son to live and die for us so that we may experience freedom, healing, and eternal life with our Savior in Heaven. There is another meaning behind all of those crosses on the side of the road, standing out to millions of people each year who travel those highways. They act as a reminder to every single person that drives past them every day. A reminder to hurting human beings, unsaved or lost souls, or someone like you or me that God is love and that He loves us so much that He sent His Son to die on that cross for all of us. Those crosses got me thinking; am I living my life as a reminder to others that God is in me, am I letting my life be an example of God’s love and wonder to everyone I come in contact with?

The Bible says in John 13:34-35, “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” What do others see in you? Do they see Christ, dying on that cross? We are commanded to love one another, so others can see Christ in us and come to find Christ for themselves; let that be the missions statement of our lives!
