“Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering?" Hebrews 10:35
One of the things that I am slow to learn is that immediately after I receive God's promise, I will experience opposition.
I wish I could say that as soon as I have a clear vision of where God is leading me then I will experience smooth sailing; all doors will fly open and all hostility will dispense. However, scripture points to the opposite of that, and I have seen it in my own life.
When I am coasting down the river of life, enjoying the scenery, and floating at a comfortable pace, I haven't heard a lot of the enemy's taunts. But, when God breaks through my apathetic exterior and challenges me to dream big dreams and trust Him to benefit His Kingdom, I sense an antagonist.
When I am confronted with God's truth that doesn't allow me to live an isolated selfish life because I am aware of the unloved, the marginalized, or the needy, opposition arises. Sometimes it comes from people (even Christians) who try to keep me from acting. Other times it comes from my own insecurities while other times fear rises up in me paralyzing me with inactivity.
Before I realized the Biblically promised pattern (when I sense God's leading, the enemy will stir trying to immobilize me), I would drift from inspired action. But, now that I realize that my inspiration awakens opposition, I let that challenge and those lies motivate me even more.
So, the next time you sense opposition, take the time to consider that it might be intentionally placed opposition trying to knock you off of your conviction. When you sense fear as you consider stepping out for Christ, walk past yours and terrorize the enemy who is scared that you will do what God has called you to do.
When God speaks the devil opposes. And, when you act, the devil is defeated.
