FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS GROUNDWIRE?

Groundwire/JesusCares is a ministry aimed at broadcasting hope to Millennials and people from Generation Z. Since 2003, Groundwire has been leveraging mainstream media and technology in order to share the love found in Jesus Christ with youth and young adults. By placing well-produced and relevant commercials on the most relevant social media platforms, we are able to share authentic hope with many who might not be ready to walk into a local church.

WHAT IS THE COACHING LINE?

www.Groundwire.netwww.JesusCares.com, as well as various other websites do not simply offer content, but conversation. The coaching line is an instant message platform that connects chatters with trained coaches in order to provide one-to-one real time conversation. Volunteers all over the world offer their time and talents in order to meet the needs of those searching.

WHO IS CAPABLE OF BEING A SPIRITUAL COACH?

Spiritual coaches are sold-out Believers who are committed to the Great Commission, love people and can articulate the Gospel clearly. They realize that, although they are not perfect, God can and will speak through them. They realize that technology offers amazing opportunities to minister to people all over the world. Coaches need to be at least 18 years old, willing to submit to a background check, and complete the necessary new coach training as well as continuing education.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE NEEDED QUALITIES OF A COACH?

A servant, who patiently loves and follows the Lord Jesus Christ, is compassionate, teachable, a good listener, and committed to sharing the Gospel.

WHAT TYPE OF COMMITMENT ARE YOU LOOKING FOR?

The typical coach has the availability to serve an average of 2-4 hours per week online. However, some coaches do offer to serve more time, depending upon their schedule.

CAN I COACH FROM HOME?

Yes, this can be done from any location using a computer, laptop, or tablet device with Internet access.

WHO WOULD I BE TALKING TO?

Although Groundwire media buys are aimed at youth and young adults, and the majority of chats are in that age range, chatters can range from fourteen to eighty years of age. About 70% of our chats come in from the United States, and the rest from all over the world. The issues are diverse ranging from the extremely depressed and suicidal person to the fifteen-year-old who is struggling with relationships.

WHAT DOES THE TRAINING LOOK LIKE?

New Coach Training begins after a coaching application is completed and submitted to Groundwire online.  Once an application is received, it is reviewed, the background check is processed, and communication is sent to the applicant regarding their approval status as well as instructions to access the Groundwire Training Academy website.  New Coach Training consists of a blend of self-paced videos, online assessments, and lastly taking real-time Practice and Live chats with an assigned trainer.  Once the assigned trainer has approved the coach’s Live Chats, the applicant becomes an active Coach. They are then assigned a Mentor  for their first few weeks of coaching support as they develop their conversational evangelism skills.  Long-term mentoring is also provided during the life-span of a Groundwire Coach.  All active Groundwire Coaches will also have opportunities to receive on-going continuing education training and access to on-line training resources.

WHAT TYPE OF OVERSIGHT IS OFFERED?

In order to protect the integrity of the Groundwire mission and message, layers of organization and accountability are built into our procedures. Coaches receive regular encouragement as they serve the Lord at Groundwire and will benefit from continuing education classes along the way.  Chats can be reviewed by the Coaching Operations Team in order to protect volunteers from accusations of inappropriate behavior as well as to ensure a consistent message is being presented.  Each new coach is assigned a mentor and Coaching Leads review some chats in real time. In addition, each spiritual coach is prayed for specifically by members of our Prayer Support Team and Coaching Family.

HOW WILL THIS BENEFIT ME AS A PERSON?

You will know that God is using you to bring others into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.  Allowing God to speak through you to someone who is struggling builds your confidence to share the Gospel conversationally and face-to-face in your own community, and to respond to diverse situations. The skills and discernment that you will develop as a Groundwire Coach will translate into your personal life and sharpen your ear to listen and direct conversations in a genuine manner towards spiritual matters.  In addition, you will experience expanded prayer opportunities from your Groundwire chats.
